The brief was to create a planting plan for two beds to provide instant impact including high level screening from the road and houses surrounding the exposed plot.
The client already had extensive plant knowledge and a very long list of desired plants and trees, so the task was to refine the list and suggest suitable additions to complement the choices and desired scheme. The plants chosen include the following:
Acer palmatatum
Amelanchier x grandiflora
Athyrium niponicum
Carex oshimensis
Cercidiphyllum japonicum
Continus coggygria
Doodia media
Dryopteris wallichiana
Dryopteris erythrosaura
Fatsia japonica
Festuca glauca
Hakonechloa macra
Heuchera marmalade and obsidian
Hosta francee fortunei and sieboldiana
Miscanthus sinensis
Nandina domestica
Pachysandra terminalis
Panicum virgatum
Polystichum polyblepharum
Prunus cerasifera
Pyrus calleryana
Sambucus nigra
Sorbs cashmeriana
Trachelospermum jasminoides
Comments from the client:
'Having a tiny and exposed garden, I had for years neglected it due to it feeling largely pointless - thinking it somewhat impossible to do anything remotely interesting with the space. To say I
was wrong would be an understatement!
From the initial consultation onwards, Sarah was engaging and full of ideas, suggestions and, most importantly, questions. Other gardeners simply told me what they would do (invariably planting
rows of laurels and other same-ish suggestions), but Sarah truly investigated what was important to me - the colours I wanted, the layouts that appeal to me, plants I liked/disliked, and
ultimately what the ideal end result would be. I can happily say that this end result was achieved, perhaps even surpassed, and that Sarah’s enthusiasm, passion and creativity were the key
factors in achieving this.
Whether you have a sprawling estate or a postage-stamp sized courtyard, I can thoroughly and confidently recommend Sarah in helping you to make the most from the space, and with a result you can
enjoy for years to come.'
